At first, Yusuke seems like your typical eccentric artist sort. He''s very often off in his own world, he doesn't seem to care about social norms, and Aesthetic is Everything (Even When You're Poor and Need Food, Not Lobsters). And, frankly, he is. He is extremely eccentric and he is well aware of it, though it’s actually a sensitive topic and not one he appreciates being brought up. Though it's never explained why he doesn't appreciate this, it's possibly because for so much of his life he was kept isolated from the world at large by his mentor and guardian and he doesn’t like feeling more like an outsider than he already is. There's no proof of this being the reason, however, beyond passing comments about how no one talks to him at school and how after the Madarame fall out even more people began to avoid him.
This isolation and Yusuke's only quirkiness has left him with a strange case of extremely strong empathy...while also lacking the ability to read social cues and realize that maybe he’s being rude or awkward. Sometimes he just doesn't care about being rude as he is extremely blunt (moreso than usual) when annoyed or offended, but most of the time he just doesn’t seem to get it. It never occurred to him that following Ann around the subway could be taken as stalking her, to the point that he actually admonishes her and the boys for assuming such a thing. It doesn't occur to him that restyling Futaba's models to fit his personal tastes is rude and he's not afraid to give someone who's offended him a piece of his mind in the bluntest way possible.
Two fastest ways to offend him is to insult his sense of aesthetic or to claim art is only good as a way to make money. While he certainly understands that not everyone is going to agree with him on what's beautiful and what isn't, telling him that he's wrong will either infuriate him or end with him in a depressive spiral that lasts however long it takes for him to get his muse back. There tends to be no in between. He also has a tendency to be extremely brusque with people who offend his sense of aesthetic by simply being or acting in a way he finds dishonorable. Claiming that art should be made for maximum profit, meanwhile, just pisses him off as Madarame and a few people in his confidant link discovered. Yusuke is one of those artists for whom art is everything; part of his confidant is about him realizing that this does conflict with the art world to some degree, though also realizing that he was looking at it as a black-and-white issue.
Assuming you haven't offended Yusuke, however, he's an extremely polite and refined young man. He’s always concerned with paying back what he feels are his debts to people, which is actually part of the reason he convinced himself that Madarame's abuse was acceptable for so long. Apologies can be a bit harder to get out of him, but if he feels he’s wronged you he will be certain to make it up to you somehow. If he can, he will share what he has because that is good manners.
Once he realizes that someone is distressed or that his actions may impact another, Yusuke shows great concern. Though he's never seen apologizing for it, he does seem to help Futaba fix her figures and he's often the first person to remind the other Thieves that their actions will have consequences in the real world and they may be getting in over their head. Likely stemming from his own prolonged abuse, Yusuke just can’t not be concerned when seeing other people in extreme distress, though depending on the situation he may underestimate just how upset someone is such as when he rearranges Futaba's figures and doesn't get that she's seriously upset over this. He's also very quick to recognize and understand when someone else is or has experienced abuse and even if he can't forgive them their actions, he will express sympathy for them. Even if that person tried to kill one of his best friends. He even donates blood as a "hobby" (whatever that means, it may just be a weird word choice), despite being extremely poor and honestly probably at least a little malnourished thanks to the abuse he suffered.
Speaking of his abuse, Yusuke is shown to be incredibly resilient. While obviously struggling with life post-abuse—he very clearly has some lingering issues with money and food and expresses that while he knows Madarame was twisted, he can’t bring himself to completely hate the man who raised him—Yusuke does not let this affect his day-to-day life overly much. He does express concern in his confidant that he will turn into Madarame if he can't find a way to paint for himself and not money, but he doesn't let it stop him. This resilience may also explain why he's so easily able to just accept that the cat is talking, he has a historical ninja or god of storms floating about in his head that lets him cast ice spells, and people can be made to change by dungeon crawling.
Abilities: Goemon's Abilities and by extension Yusuke's are very heavily skewed towards hitting one enemy really, really hard or freezing them to death. He's also particularly good at avoiding hits. (Although I like Goemon, in-game Yusuke will have access to Kamu Susano-o, his ulitmate persona. Their abilities are the same.)
Aside from his abilities in a fight, Yusuke is something of an art prodigy and is incredibly skilled at painting and sketching. This even extends to being able to copy a persona’s skill onto a card so that another persona can learn it.
Alignment: Peromei. While Yusuke sort of spends a lot of time at the extremes of a few other emotions, hope and despair is basically what his entire confidant is about. Hope for the future, despair at realizing he's wrong... The abuse he grew up under could also be seen as a period of great despair ending with hope that he will be alright now.
Other:
General Sample: TDM with unfortunately no emotional bits.
Emotion Sample: Now that Yusuke'd had a chance to settle into this new, strange world, it was time to experiment. He'd sort of seen how emotions could affect the world here, but he wanted to see what it was he could do. How would his emotions manifest here?
And how could he best capture it on canvas? Watercolors? Pastels? Perhaps just regular acrylics to start, a simple and straightforward medium before he began experimenting. A shame he didn’t have any of the colored pencils from school, those might have been better...
He was so lost in his own mind on his way to the park that he hadn't noticed the streaks of bright ice-blue splashed around his feet. The splashes didn't last very long, but his excitement was literally impossible to contain.
The park was thankfully empty when Yusuke got there and found a bench by some flowers. They would be a good subject for this; a variety of species and colors would make it easier to focus on one thing at a time. Hopefully. It usually worked when he was brainstorming. Sometimes. Whatever.
Yusuke spotted a particularly stand out lily. Perfect. Sitting down, he leaned forward and began to think angry, upsetting thoughts. Akechi's actions, Madarame's betrayal, Futaba calling his sense of aesthetic trash...
The lily remained unchanged. (Behind Yusuke, however, a small puddle of reddish-green-not really brown was forming and the flowers around the lily were wilting. He didn't notice this.)
Rude. Maybe if he focused harder...
Five minutes passed and while the flowers around the lily were affected, the lily somehow resisted it, much to Yusuke's annoyance. He thought emotions held power in this world, why wasn’t it work--
The puddle, which had been steadily growing larger and bubbling the longer Yusuke stared at this obstinate lily, suddenly exploded and splashed the offending flower with the reddish-greenish-not really brown. It didn't stay on there for very long, quickly replaced by a stripe of lemon yellow as Yusuke yelped in shock.
Well alright then. Apparently his emotions were violent. At least they were also pretty.
Questions: Nope!
